View your journey's average emissions with our carbon calculator

Published: 1st December 2022

Our Carbon Calculator is now live, enabling you to view the average emissions for journeys travelled, and opt for greener modes of group transportation.

According to the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), Coaches are one of the greenest modes of transportation. That’s why using data from the Department for Transport (DFT) we’ve put together our carbon calculator to give you the opportunity to view the average emissions from journeys you take and enable you to opt for greener modes of transportation.

As part of the National Express Group, our ambition at National Express Transport Solutions is to be the world’s greenest mass transit provider. We aim to be the change we want to see and are encouraging a modal shift from individual cars to more sustainable modes of transportation, such as Coaches and Buses. This is because, without a modal shift, the fundamental issues of congestion and pollution simply won’t go away.

So whether you’re a Sustainability Manager looking to reduce your organisation's Scope 3 emissions or a Travel Officer looking to make greener choices, our Carbon Calculator is here to help.

Please Note

Greenhouse gas emissions are expressed in Carbon Dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per passenger kilometre (km). g CO2e = grams of Carbon Dioxide equivalents. g CO2e/passenger km for the modes of transport shown above are:

  • 33.5 g - Coach
  • 43.1 g - National Rail
  • 43.4 g - Electric Car (1 person)
  • 195.2 g - Diesel Car (1 person)
  • 206.0 g - Petrol Car (1 person)

Source data for the different modes of transport is from the DfT and can be found on the government website in table ENV0701 at:
